There is a whole fascinating world of games

Are you game?

There is a whole fascinating world of games.

Who doesn’t like playing? Playing is very natural to us. Playing is something that remains a prominent part of your early life. We’ve seen babies, puppies, cubs, kittens and even birds do it. As we grow older, it becomes a less prominent aspect. We may think that the world of games and play is just make believe and hence not pay much attention to it but in my observation, we are most authentic and honest to our true being when we are at play. It is very difficult to hide our personalities or try or deceive our values over an intense board game or in a heated football match. Our true nature always comes out during play which is why I love games so much. Hidden aspects of people’s personalities come to the forefront.

A lot is happening when you’re playing.

In India, games are often synonymous with summer vacations. The swelling sun cannot take the charm of gully cricket away. Then there’s the lazy afternoons with card games and other strategy games like monopoly which is adopted into the Indian game of  business.

There are incredible card games across the world. I was astonished to find that Germany has a different card deck. It’s not the 52 card deck you are familiar with. I was in Germany when I was introduced to some of these mind-blowing games. Very complex, cognitively challenging yet fun.

I do not play video games because I like to keep playing off screen. True fun manifests when you sit across a table and lay out a game to play with familiar people or strangers. I’m going to be sharing more about these games and this is an open invitation to you to come play games!

Sit across a table from me and let’s connect over a nice strategy game. I like strategy because very little luck is involved in them. We can really get to know each other better and do it all while playing- what a win-win situation!

When you’re playing a game, your mind is not wandering. You are entirely in the present moment and your sole focus is your next move, you are perceiving your opponents moves in real time and predicting the course of the game. With such huge amounts of cognitive engagement, there is nowhere else you could possibly be. All your worries take a back seat. It is always nicer to be in a space where there is common involvement over something truly stimulating than say gossiping or attempting small talk that is often superficial. Board games are truly wonderful because a lot of them are very smartly beautifully designed, they come packaged with such inventive little pieces.

Board games have the transformative ability to bring people together and to spend quality time together. It’s great for your brain, it’s great for your social connection, it’s great to keep your life light hearted- it’s all a game anyway!

I hope you’ll join me in playing. Bring along a friend and we can create a community!
