I remember an incident in college when a historic movie was being shot on campus on the life of Babasaheb Ambedkar. It seemed like a big deal since there were lots of trucks and lorries and many many people and lots of activity. My curiosity drew me in and although most people there had auditioned to be there, I somehow was able to find my way in and get myself a role. The shot was from the British area, so the whole setting was colonial and I was given the role of an English speaking student, a Britisher. Being the person that I am, I was not prepared to simply sit in a passive role. I asked if I would be getting a dialogue. I pestered the people at the set till I auditioned for the two lines with all my heart and emotion. Among the entire group, only me and my friend finally got some dialogues. The experience has stayed with me through all these years and that was just chapter 1. A small role in a big film. There are more chapters to come and you can ask me more about them when we meet!
