One of the biggest motivators for fitness is the mirror. The fitness industry is worth 1.4 billion rupees in India alone. Each year, several hundreds of people set out to get that perfect body. Whether it be thos 6 pack abs or the perfect curves, everyone has looked at the mirror and seen something they want to change. But this is an older model of fitness. Fitness itself is slowly undergoing a paradigm shift. From the conventional body types, there is now more awareness and understanding of the uniqueness of each body. Different shapes and sizes are getting more representation in media and mere muscles or that 36-24-36 measurements alone are not attractive anymore. Evolutionarily, we are attracted to those who we deem fittest, those who we see as competent and capable. In the current world, fitness has a lot to do with mental factors as well. One who can be resilient, compassionate, kind and well-balanced clearly has an advantage over someone who is merely good looking. Not to say that abs don’t attract anymore but to remember that the brains that come with it matter too.
